Giovanna, originally from France, is an artist based in the suburbs of Paris with a Chilean background. Holding a degree in International Business, she has always harbored a strong passion for exploring the world through travel. Her journey commenced in 2013 in Australia, where she encountered an array of creative and spiritually inclined individuals.

A pivotal year for Giovanna was 2019, as she made the decision to venture through South America alone, delving into diverse cultures and reconnecting with her Chilean heritage. The vibrant South American street art captivated her, igniting a newfound appreciation for artistic expression. Upon her return to France, Giovanna embarked on nearly two years of introspection, immersing herself in self-reflection and personal growth through practices such as meditation, Yoga, and Reiki healing. During this transformative period, she delved into drawing, painting, digital art creation, and photomontages as mediums to convey her emotions and artistic vision.

Having honed her skills through self-study, her creative influences are primarily drawn from her experiences with travel, music, nature, and women, among other sources. A pivotal moment in her artistic journey occurred during her recent exploration of Mexico and Guatemala. This transformative trip ignited a deep fascination with Mexican art, prompting visits to galleries in Oaxaca de Juarez and interactions with local artists at Atitlan lake in Guatemala. This voyage served as a catalyst for her artistic growth and solidified her commitment to contributing beauty to the artistic community.

Self-taught or art school?

I had taken short graphic design classes, but ultimately I am a self-taught artist.

How would you describe your style?

I consider myself a visual surrealist artist; I primarily create photomontages, which I find to be the best medium for executing my projects, visions, and ideas. My main goal is to invite viewers to connect with natural elements, nature, and the animal kingdom.

Can you tell us about your artistic process?

I use software and an application on my laptop to add motion to my art. Before starting, I search for images that inspire me, such as those with lights, textures, flowers, natural elements, and female figures. I enjoy connecting these figures to various elements of my compositions. Once I have a vision of the complete artwork, I spend several days working on it until I am satisfied with the result. The final touch is adding motion effects to bring my artworks to life.

Is narrative important in your work?

I believe that narrative is important in the overall picture, but I don’t think it’s necessary to connect all the artworks together to understand my vision.

Who are your favourite artists and why?

I would choose Dali for the impressive works he created in his lifetime and his eccentric persona. I am also impressed by Marcel Van Luit, whose work is also connected to the Animal Kingdom. This inspires me to learn, work, and develop my identity as an emerging artist.

Who or what inspires your art?

Nature, dance and music as this helps me to create my own atmosphere while I am working. Also, I have traveled for few years around Latin America and I would say that observing, discovering art galleries overseas, street art, inspired me to express myself through art and find my way.

Where’s your studio and what’s it like?

I do not have a studio, so I work from home using my laptop, which is like my own little ‘suitcase studio.’

Do you have any studio rituals?

Before starting work on a project, I try to clear my mind and be open to my ideas and creativity. If my creativity is lacking, I turn to nature, read a book, or consume art content. Connecting with nature is crucial to my creative process.

What are you working on currently?

I am currently working on various visual projects related to the animal kingdom. I hope to collaborate with photographers or other artists in the future to create a fusion of our work.
