Brit Lindstrøm is an artist whose practice is shaped by personal exploration, observation and a lifelong passion for painting. Primarily self-taught, with additional artistic development through selected formal lessons and recent tuition with Marina Emphietzi, Lindstrøm has developed an intuitive approach grounded in a deep connection to nature.
Her work focuses primarily on landscapes and seascapes, drawing inspiration from the beauty, movement and atmosphere of the natural world. Rather than relying heavily on narrative or symbolism, Lindstrøm is interested in visual interpretation, using colour, composition and expressive detail to capture the emotional resonance of place.
Influenced by artists including Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet, she is particularly drawn to their use of colour, light and movement. These influences inform her own evolving visual language, which balances serenity with a sense of vitality.
Her Norwegian heritage also plays an important role within her practice, strengthening her connection to landscape, seascape and the natural environment. Working from her home studio, Lindstrøm values the freedom of an uninterrupted creative space, allowing each painting to develop organically from initial observation and research. Are you self-taught, or did you undertake formal artistic training?
I have undertaken some artistic training over the years, including recent tuition with Marina Emphietzi, but I am largely self-taught. My artistic development has been shaped through personal dedication, observation and a lifelong passion for painting.
How would you define your visual language or conceptual approach?
My work is inspired by studying the paintings of artists I admire, as well as photographs and natural surroundings. I use these influences to create my own interpretations, focusing on atmosphere, beauty and personal expression.
Can you describe your creative process from conception to completion?
My process often begins with an idea or visual inspiration, which I develop through researching reference images. From there, I create my own composition, allowing the painting to evolve naturally while staying true to my original vision.
Does narrative, symbolism, or storytelling play a role within your work?
Narrative and symbolism are not central to my practice. Instead, I focus on capturing the visual and emotional beauty of landscapes and seascapes.
Which artists have most influenced you historically or contemporarily and why?
Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet have always deeply inspired me. Their exceptional use of colour, movement and ability to capture the beauty of nature continue to influence my work.
What personal, cultural, or environmental influences shape your practice?
My Norwegian heritage plays an important role in shaping my artistic perspective, particularly my deep appreciation for landscapes, seascapes and the natural environment.
Where is your studio based, and how does the space inform your creativity?
I work from my home studio, where I enjoy a peaceful and uninterrupted environment that allows me complete creative freedom.
Do you have any rituals or rhythms that anchor your studio practice?
I do not follow strict rituals, preferring an intuitive and flexible creative process.
What bodies of work or projects are you currently developing?
Currently, I am deeply focused on seascapes, which continue to inspire and fascinate me.
